Compliment your soul

I'm just back from a lovely night in a hotel with John and feeling quite refreshed. All the cobwebs that were gathered in my head and making me feel a bit down the past week or so have well and truly been dusted away. I've got some chilled sunday music playing on spotify (think Lucy Rose, Feist, laura Marling) and Dexter cuddled up next to me, so thought this would be a good time to share what I've been up to lately.

Enjoying my new jumper from She Likes. Sometimes there's nothing more enjoyable and comfortable than an old school fruit of the loom style sweater (remember from school days?) It is super cosy, and I like the diamond especially cause it matches the tattoo on my leg :)

Despite being artistic and painterly for a living, I've never actually quite caught on to the whole nail art trend. Crackles, magnets, little teeny balls... the nail trend list seems to be expanding and getting more experimental by the minute. I was pretty intrigued to try this Leather, Crystal and Skulls kit from Nails Inc. I must say, I am really enjoying the textured effect this polish creates! I'm saving the gems for a special occassion (they'd fall off and be wasted within a day in my messy line of work) and the little skulls that come with it look awesome. This is my first time trying a nail polish with a matte finish too. What do you think?

I haven't just been playing dress up with new clothes and nail products in my house, they have actually seen the light of day too as I went along to Munro's with Olivia for lunch one day, which has newly opened on great western road (it used to be the Captains's Rest for any fellow Glasgow dwellers)

First impressions - I was really enjoying the interior. Their decor has an edgy urban feel to it, with a nice traditional Scottish twist in the form of beautiful landscape paintings, ornate gold frames and and tartan upholstery. The overall 'feel' of a place is a big thing for me when it comes to eating or drinking out and about. I like to feel welcomed and cosy. We grabbed a booth by the window and managed to sit and chat for hours watching the world go by outside in Glasgow busy West End.

Oh, and we also had some wonderful grub! Olivia had a cheese, ham and pineapple pizza and I went for the Italian sharing platter. I just felt like having a few different bits to nibble and it did hit the spot. However I think the £12 price tag on this platter was a bit much. Fair enough it will be cheaper for those less greedy folks that I who would actually be sharing it. But I don't know, that is the only thing about our visit which I was a tad 'meh' about. Olivia said her pizza was lovely, with a base not too thin but not too thick that would be the perfect happy medium for all pizza lovers out there.

Munros also have a range of craft beers on offer, which I would love to have tried if I wasn't driving. We both agreed that we would definitely go back here. I think their menu is great - small but to the point, with the sort of food that would perfectly fill your tum before a night of drinking or just socialising with chums. Think it would certainly be the perfect place to start off any night out in Glasgow, with both Sauchiehall street and Byres Road bout a ten minute walk away.

When I really think about it, I feel very lucky that Glasgow offers such a wide range of good places to go, right on my doorstep. The city is great for gigs, eating, drinking, fashion, and also makeup too. Most of my favourite makeup brands are part of beauty counters in department stores, but I went to the Bare Minerals Boutique for a visit - which if you remember when I posted about it before is it's very own shop. Paula sat me down for my make under using their new ready foundation - which is in a compact rather than the usual loose powder form.

I'm always most impressed when makeup artists know their stuff - and Paula certainly did! Before even putting a drop of makeup on me she ran through a skincare routine that would best fit my busy (aka feeling lazy at bedtime) schedule :) Then it was time for my make under.

I'm going to be honest - the ready foundation seems to just not take to my skin at all, as you can see from the picture above. I had a fun and informative session with Paula, and I set off on my merry way but as soon as I got home about half an hour later I looked in the mirror and was disappointed to see that the foundation was very cakey all over my skin.

It seemed to just crumble off, especially around my nose and cheeks. For a company that promotes natural beauty and simple but flawless makeup, I am really disappointed that the new compact foundation took to my skin in this way. It looked the exact opposite of what I'd hoped :( I'm hoping it's just me though, as I'd really like to give it another try so will see how it goes with the sample I brought home. I really love Bare Minerals and everything that they are about, and was excited about the compact foundation as I find doing your makeup on the go with loose powder can be quite messy. But I was so underwhelmed! A real shame.

Despite a bad experience with this product, I would never completely write Bare Minerals off and they have some lovely stuff in store at the moment that really caught my eye (and hopefully that I'd have better luck with)

Their limited edition products for summer are gorgeous! Paula used the berry remix lip sheen on me and it was the perfect mix between lipstick and gloss.

The light show palette had some stunning shades in it, and would be the perfect companion in your handbag for touching up makeup on a night out. What are your thoughts on Bare Minerals Makeup? I like that they do a compact range, even though they are well known for their loose powders, as I think they are a bit more handy for when we're on the go.

Between talking about fashion, food, makeup, and anything in between I'll always be honest where necessary. But also pay the utmost compliments where due! On that note, the title of this post is from a lovely wee song by Dan Croll that makes me feel happy about life ♥ Have a happy sunday whatever you are upto.
