I've been hanging out with my wee pal Dexter today as I'm feeling a bit under the weather. On days like this working from home is an option I've never been more grateful for!
I got some lovely new Blossom and Bloom bedsheets from Next Homeware which I have been cosied up in ALL day (oh the shame) I have a lot of their home items dotted about the flat, and some recent purchases include a new clock for the kitchen, a W.C sign and the bali duckboard for the bathroom, some wooden placemats and a floral table cloth for our dining table. Pretty safe to say I love their stuff (and my flat mates are content with my personal taste running riot throughout our home)
I definitely feel like I'm the mother figure in our household sometimes, and it's wee touches like air fresheners and scented candles which I dot about that make a house more homely. I never thought I'd hear myself saying that, never mind believing it but there is something really refreshing about stepping in the front door, greeted with pleasant fragrances rather than pot noodles and damp washing (nostalgia of pals flats during my student years...)
I think it's sometimes hard to notice nice smells when you've been in about it all day, but Dexter's inquisitive sniffing confirmed that my new Airwick plugin air freshener was indeed working!
This year for easter my gran got me a bunch of candles and bubble bath rather than an easter egg. Does that mean I'm becoming a grown up now? I've also recently got this super clever candle from Airwick which glows lots of different colours when lit. It smells lovely and sets a really chilled mood when I'm in the house at night.
I'd been pondering over an easter recipe for a wee something to take to my Dad's house over the weekend, and after deciding on banana cake then cake pops I finally settled on this chocolate nest cake. Be warned, mines looks NOTHING like the pictures on the recipe! This was my first time baking a 'big' cake rather than just cupcakes and I think my cake tin was too wide as the cake didn't really feel tall enough. I winged it none the less, took it to my Dad's and the whole thing got devoured so it didn't work out too bad after all.
Apart from baking and being all homely the past couple of weeks, I managed to nip in to the new Forever 21 store which has opened in Glasgow. Here's what I got...
Four t-shirts, a spiked collar shirt, socks, earrings, necklace and headband (oh, and a heart jumper which is in the washing machine right now!) I'm just going to put this out there but I actually left the store feeling pretty underwhelmed. Massive shop with three floors and more clothes than I have ever seen, but when I looked closely I can't say I was overly impressed with what I did see. I'd been looking for a more dressy/night out version of the Kipling Bags from collectables for this weekend, and something similar to these awesome Mi Pac's, but couldn't even find a bag that I liked as they were all scattered about the store rather than being in the one place like the rest of the accessories. Others may disagree with my opinion, and maybe did better than me in their trip there but I can't believe after how hyped up I got about it, all I ended up walking out with was the above. Hopefully towards summer they'll get some new stock in which I'll take a fancy for. But until then my bank balance is saved!
On a final note, how cute is this denim jacket from Boohoo Boutique? It's for their High Summer range but it looks so cosy and I want it now! :) Think I spoke about my bank balance too soon...
