Girls with glasses

Happy Tuesday darlings! It's been a wee bit longer than I'd hoped since my last blog post, but island life up in Shetland is treating me well and we are halfway through the shoot now. Only 10 more days and I'll be reunited with my furbabies and Pete. The anxiety has been rearing its ugly head a tad more than usual, but I'm lucky to be surrounded by a great team on this job who have been looking out for me and we've been having a really nice time together. Exploring all over Shetland (it is insanely beautiful, with scenery and white beaches to take your breath away) along with eating/drinking our body weight in seafood and Shetland Reel Gin. We've got this weekend off, so I'm hoping to take a wildlife boat trip on Saturday to spy a closer look at Puffins, Seals and Otters, and then Sunday I've got another horse riding trek booked. You can follow my adventures over on Instagram (click here) and I'm thinking of doing a travel post about Shetland once I'm home. It really is an absolutely stunning place! Anyways, it recently dawned on me that although I mention cruelty free makeup all the time on here, I've never done a full 'daily face' type post. So, here's a rundown of my absolute favourite cruelty free brands which I use on my face every single day.

Cruelty Free Makeup

Kat Von D

Despite having adored Kat Von D and her tattooing for many years, my love affair with her makeup brand is a fairly recent one. I picked up my first few bits of Kat Von D makeup when I was in New York at the start of the year (bless ya Sephora) and since I've been up in Shetland an actual KVD concession has just opened inside Debenhams at Silverburn. This is going to be veeeery dangerous for my bank balance when I get home. On holiday I bought the Lock It foundation (quite a heavy coverage, similar to illamasqua skin base) along with the loose setting powder, which is great but I think I prefer a compact powder in hindsight as it really does go everywhere and is a bit too expensive to spill on the carpet every time you open it. The tattoo liner is fantastic too - super easy to apply and pretty much doesn't budge once it has dried. KVD is also very well known for her everlasting liquid lipsticks, and at the moment I have two but I definitely want to try more colours because they have a lovely finish and great staying power.

Too Faced

I ended up trying out a few bits from Too Faced thanks to Kat Von D, as she released two collaborative sets with them - the Better Together Ultimate Eye Collection, and Better Together Cheek and Lip Makeup Bag. You can get these online and Debenhams and both sets are a really good way to introduce you to some stellar products from each brand. Plus, all the shades in the super cute makeup bag are exclusive! Their Better Than Sex mascara is absolutely perfect for buildable, everyday wear. Buying the Too Faced mini kits have made me want to try even more from them, so if you have any recommendations then let me know.

Charlotte Tilbury

A few weeks ago I went into CT in Frasers for a makeover by one of their artists Alexx, and I chose the 'Uptown Girl' look in a box. I'm pretty obsessed with mini kits because I think it's a great way to introduce you to the brand without spending a silly amount of money on loads of products, so at the end of my appointment I bought the Quick N' Easy Naturally Glowing Look (which is now sold out online but might still be in store!) and it's been perfect for my travels especially. Their Wonder Glow face primer basically gives me life in the form of liquid magic underneath your foundation, and I am like an obsessed magpie with the Colour Chameleon eyeshadow pencil. SO SHINY AND PRETTY. And so blendable and just make my eyes look like they're about to pop right outta my face (in a good way, promise) Alexx focused the makeover towards the fact that I wear glasses every day, and she made me feel like a million dollars in my new Iolla specs (they're the Muir frame in baby pink fade) You can see the outcome of the makeover here! Don't even get me started on their skincare (it is just phenomenal)

Lola Makeup by Perse

Lola is a brand which I'd spied quite a few times in Marks and Spencers, but never tried until they kindly sent me some products recently. Their Face & Body bronzer has been a perfect addition to my makeup bag this summer when I've been looking for a little sunkissed boost which is subtle and smooth (and not 'dirty' like some bronzers, ewww) I've been wearing their Lip Pencil in berry on it's own or with another lipstick every day, and the other end of it boasts a little lip brush which is perfect for blending - even though this waxy but pigmented formula glides on effortlessly. The whole Lola range is ridiculously reasonably priced, which gives me no excuses to experiment with even more of their products. Totally got my eye on their Highlighting Concealer Pen - could this be a cruelty free YSL dupe?!

Another few stars worth mentioning...

Anastasia Beverly Hillsfor their Dipbrow Pomade (I bought this and the Duo Brush 12 in NYC. Sometimes I am a bit heavy handed and you only need the tiniest bit, but practice makes perfect huh?)

Iconic London for their insane range of cruelty free makeup brushes (I use the Pro Evo sculpt brush for my foundation and it is so satisfying to apply. The quality is great, it washes really well and has not shed one single hair since I got it!)

Illamasquafor some of the most beautiful products I have ever used, and many more which I still need to try! (Skin Base foundation is still a firm favourite of mine, and no face would be complete without the Beyond Highlighter in OMG because it literally is OMG)

Bite Beauty Lip Lab for the most 'me' colour of lippie I will ever own (Still need to blog about my custom colour making experience there when I was in Toronto, I'm wearing one of the two shades I made in these pictures)

Hair - BLOW Shawlands // Glasses - Iolla // Nails - Jade @ Bella Mani //
Nose Jewellery - Anatometal from FMT Glasgow // Shirt - Lazy Oaf // Choker - Topshop

You've probably noticed on Instagram that my hair has washed out to a lovely silvery lilac now, but these photos are from the day it was freshly done by my faves at Blow. Once I come back from Shetland I'm wanting to treat myself to some hair extensions for my birthday, so I'm stupidly excited to get back and have a consultation with their extensions specialist Stephanie. I've never had proper long hair before, I bet I won't bloody know what to do with it half the time :') Big congrats are in order as well for Blow as they've just won two awards at the Look Awards 2017 for best social media and colour expert recognition. Extremely well deserved - you go girls!

So tell me, what are your favourite cruelty free makeup brands or products at the moment? Have you used anything from the brands above which you think I should try? Let me know in the comments!
