I knew it wouldn't be long before a change of hair colour was on the cards. I grew bored of having dark roots pretty quickly. Isn't it funny how the grass is always greener on the other side (or, blonder, in my case!) when it comes to hair. When it's short, I want it long, When I have a sweeping side fringe, I want my micro fringe cut back in. One thing I knew for sure since hearing that Guy Tang & Kenra's metallic colour collection was landing in Glasgow (in the one and only BLOW) is that I definitely wanted a piece of the action.
Blow was the first salon in the UK to launch Guy Tang's metallic collection with Kenra after Blow's owner Fallon met with him at a training course in Miami last year. The collection consists of three permanent violet metallic shades, three demi silver metallic shades, and three demi violet metallic shades which are designed for pre lightened hair. The Metallic Collection can be used to add dimensional highlights, an overall cool steel finish, or added into other shades for a smokey look. My before is essentially how my hair looked in the NYC post pictures - big dark roots and purple from mid to ends. Jemima lifted my roots, did a second round of bleach to lift the middle (all hail Olaplex) followed by Silver Rapid Toner, then a mix of Light Blonde/Violet Metallic and Extra Light Blonde/Silver Metallic for my overall colour. I had no idea what the outcome would be with the Kenra colours, but I absolutely love it and can't believe how much of a transformation she was able to achieve with my hair in one visit, considering how it looked when I first walked in. Grilac is here to stay ♥
My hair is getting to a good length now for reintroducing some waves and curls, without ending up looking like little orphan Annie! This new Limited Edition Rose Gold Express ion unclipped wand from Paul Mitchell launches in April (RRP £89.95) but I was sent a wee preview to test it out. OH MY DAYS. Insert heart eye emoji right here. Is it silly that I never realised different shaped barrels produce different shapes curls? Duh, Ayden. To be fair, in the past I've mostly used the straightners to curl my hair, hoping the best with each swoosh and sweep that I'd be able to produce some sort of curl (which realistically were never facing the same way and ALWAYS better at one side than the other)
Apart from burning my fingers several times (think I need to get a heat proof MJ glove on the go) I was pleasantly surprised with the different curls each barrel produced. It took a bit of fiddling to lock each one into place, then remove again once it has cooled down but I got the hang of it after a few tries. Number 1 is the bubble wand which produced more tousled waves (my favourite), number 2 is the reversed tapered cone for soft curls, and number 3 is the 1.25" rod for full bodied volume (this was my least fave, would maybe work better with longer hair) You can control the temperature too, so yes I burnt my fingers at 210 degrees but the above was achieved straight off the bat on freshly washed hair, and not sprayed with hairspray beforehand. You can see the final trace of my Hair Dazzles by KK which I got put in for going on holiday. They've lasted so well, even with blow drying and straightening my hair almost every day. They were completely undisturbed by the hair bleaching and colouring too! I'll need to get booked in at NAF for some again soon, maybe some purple dazzles this time to go with my new doo ♥ Hope you all have a great weekend whatever you up to.
