Well hello 2017, it sure is nice to see ya! It's taken me a few days longer than planned to get this blog post up, as I've been hit with that cold and flu bug which loads of folk seem to be suffering from at the moment. But to be honest it's set me up in a good mindset for entering the new year - taking life slow and steady. I have a few personal goals which I'd like to achieve this year, but all in all I want my pace of life to be a lot less frantic and a whole lot more purposeful. Sure, I always live my life with purpose but when you cram so much into so little time... the time you do spend in that moment is always gone in a flash. This year I really want to focus on 'the now' as much as possible. I'll make plans and have goals (girl boss for life, that's never gonna change!) but I won't worry if things don't go to plan or I venture off the path I've set. Being a control freak and a worrier when it comes to anything and everything really doesn't generate the best quality of life. No matter what each day brings, I want to listen to my body (physically, emotionally and mentally) as much as possible. Say yes more, say no more, break the routine, and not let anxiety and habits determine how this year, and years to come, will pan out.

A couple of weeks before Christmas I finished up at work for the year and organised a little festive shoot with the wonderful Jasmin from A Couple Of Photos. I embraced some new purple locks (and a shadow root, because it's winter after all!) after visiting my girls at Blow. They made me feel like a million dollars as usual, and after a year of rainbow locks I think I'll be embracing all things purple as my go-to hair colour for this year. The dark root means I can give my hair a little rest from bleaching for the meantime too. It was Bronson's first visit to the salon, which I worried was going to be a stressful affair but Blow were so accommodating with him, he had a rare old time! Finding more doggy friendly places in Shawlands and the city centre is at the top of my list for this year, I really hope to bring my wee pal out and about with me as much as possible. The day of our shoot, I treated myself to a wee makeup session with my fave Allana at Pop Makeup Bar, telling her I fancied going for a modern twist on a vintage look, with the classic cat eye but a pop of colour on the lips to go with my outfit for the day. Not forgetting my Russian Volume Lashes by Sarah too. Seriously, this gal is a wizard and I can't get over the gorgeous shape, and natural but full look she was able to create for me. They've lasted for over a month now! It was an absolute pleasure spending the afternoon with Jasmin, she made me feel so comfortable and I love a lot of the candid moments and expressions she was able to capture throughout the day. A Couple Of Photos are based in Edinburgh, but willing to travel and I would definitely recommend them if you're looking to capture some special memories this year.
From now, I'm making a promise to myself that 2017 will be the year where I try to follow my human instinct rather than sink into my usual habitual tendencies. Freeing myself from this might not be the most ground breaking new years resolution you've ever heard, but I just don't see the point anymore of making goals year after year, attempting them in the exact same fashion and ultimately letting my anxious nature rule the roost. One small but already significant change I've made is coming off the contraceptive pill, and I can't believe the difference I feel already. I've been on the pill since I was 15, so at 27 feel like it's time for a break from routine, and a month on I am feeling so much better physically and mentally! Perhaps something I'll do a blog post about in the coming months, as I know a lot of people my age who are in the exact same position. The pill can often be linked to depression, yet I never even questioned coming off something which I have depended on regulating my period for the past 12 years (turns out, they don't even need regulated any more gals, came back like clockwork with no period pain whatsoever) So yeah, Bye Felicia! Time to change things up in here, piece by piece. Ultimately, I'm letting my hands off the autopilot setting to see if I can learn, and grow, and not be scared of venturing the road less travelled.
Here's to living, loving, and learning, with a massive hug of support from me to you in doing exactly what is right for you.
